UNC Research Core Facilities are shared resources which offer a wide range of services to the research community, including cutting edge technologies, high end instrumentation, technical support, and education. Our facilities are committed to enhancing and expanding the collaborative capabilities of research at UNC-Chapel Hill.

Research Core Facilities are the backbone of the research infrastructure at UNC.  Many core facilities also offer services to customers outside of UNC, including other Universities and private companies. 

UNC’s research core facilities offer services in a broad range of disciplines, including analytical chemistry, biostatistics and bioinformatics, genetics and genomics, microscopy, imaging, tissue and cell culture, nanofabrication, drug development, and many others.  Use the "UNC Core Facilities by Category" tab for a list of available core facilities at UNC.

High Throughput Peptide Synthesis and Array Core Facility

We use automated Fmoc SPPS to make synthetic peptides. We are routinely making 20-30-mer peptides, but also have experience with synthesis of longer sequences, 40-60-mer. Homogeneity is evaluated by mass analysis (MALDI-TOF MS) and analytical HPLC.

The Lenti-shRNA Core Facility is premised in Open Biosystems TRC1 shRNA libraries. The libraries are cataloged as a single lentiviral-vector shRNA expression clones directed to +/- 16,000 human and mouse genes. Each gene is targeted by 4 or 5 different shRNAs driven by the U6 promoter.
