Overview

Carolina Microscopy provides training, assistance and services in light microscopy, electron microscopy and image analysis at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

We are distributed over four locations:

Biology Microscopy Core (BIO): light microscopy, image analysis. Director: Nat Prunet.
Hooker Imaging Core (HIC): light microscopy, image analysis, electron microscopy. Director: Wendy Salmon. For electron microscopy contact Paul Risteff.
Microscopy Services Laboratory (MSL): light microscopy, image analysis, electron microscopy. Director: Pablo Ariel. For electron microscopy contact EM staff.
Neuroscience Microscopy Core (NMC): light microscopy, image analysis. Director: Michelle Itano.

If you have already worked with us, or have a preference for one of Carolina Microscopy’s electron microscopy locations, please email the staff at that location directly:
- HIC: Hooker Imaging Core (Paul Risteff; Taylor Hall)
- MSL: Microscopy Services Laboratory (Kristen White, Jillann Madren, Victoria Madden; Brinkhous Bullitt Bldg)
If you need to do scanning electron microscopy or to perform a formal audit of the location that you work with, please contact the MSL electron microscopy team.
If you have a need for repeated imaging of negative stained samples and want training to independently operate a transmission electron microscope, please contact Paul Risteff in the Hooker Imaging Core.
